Roger Helmer MEP Visits Venture For Life Alternative Education Provisions in Derby
Roger Helmer, MEP for the East Midlands, visited Venture For Life on Friday, 23 rd of September, to see the vocational education provded in Derby to children who have been excluded from LEA schools for disciplinary reasons.
Off the many offerings to chose from, that Venture For Life provides, Roger visited both the Hair and Beauty Academy at 118 Friar Gate and then on to the Automotive Academy on Castings Road. Roger was able to see for himself that by offering training to youngsters, often from dysfunctional backgrounds, which is seen by the learners themselves as interesting and useful, they enjoy considerable success in turning their lives around and are set these upon a viable path to work, progress and success.
Roger Helmer said, “Given the well-known problems of dealing with children with severe behavioural problems who are excluded from mainstream schools, this seems to me an exciting approach.”
Managing Director of Venture For Life, Darrell West said, “I was so pleased in the interest that Roger Helmer showed to our students and to our enterprise. We are unique in the width and breadth of our offering and our approach.”
The charity arm of Venture For Life, the Venture Foundation, is sponsoring events in the East Midlands to further the work of providing support to disadvantaged children and preparing them for fulfilling their potential.
